Utah’s SheTech Conference aims to inspire generation of girls

On March 1, more than 2,000 girls gathered in the Mountain American Exposition Center in Sandy for the SheTech Conference. These girls, ranging from ninth- to 12th-graders, were there for one purpose: to learn about and encourage their activity in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

Founded by the Women Tech Council, the SheTech Conference is an annual conference held in Utah to encourage girls to connect with STEM.

Seeing is believing — SheTech shows girls there’s a future for women in Utah’s tech industry

When Nadia Diaz and Abbi Rogers were students at American Fork High School, “inspirational” chemistry teacher Whitney Beckstead took them to SheTech Explorer Day three years running.

The chance to interact with women who had established careers in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) had a big influence on the teenagers. Both now 18, Diaz is now studying forensic science at Utah Valley University while Rogers is at Utah State University, studying veterinary science.

The SheTech Explorer Days are back, and there is literally something for every young woman at this event.

SheTech is put on by the Women Tech Council as a hands-on tech conference for high school girls. The day includes a plethora of interactive hands-on workshops centered on science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM. Women Tech Council Opens Registration for SheTech, largest STEM activation program for high school girls

SheTech Explorer Day

March 1 marks the first SheTech Explorer Day of the year. 300 different STEM industry experts will be at UVU to mentor the 1,500 high schools girls expected to attend.

1.2K high school girls participate in STEM event

OREM — More than 1,000 high school girls filled up the Utah Valley University UCCU center Friday.

They were there for SheTech Explorer, a STEM event put on by the Women Tech Council and Utah Valley University. It was sponsored by Ancestry.com and the Utah STEM Action Center.

Girl power: SheTech links growing number of high school girls to STEM

When Angela Trego read a feedback survey where a girl admitted she didn’t know she could do things in science, technology, engineering and math until she attended SheTech Explorer Day, she knew the event was doing what it was meant to.

Registration is now open for the third annual SheTech Explorer Day, an event to introduce more than 1,000 high school girls in grades 9-12 to programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
